Easter Rising of 1916:

On April 24th of 1916 Irish Republicans declared their independence from the British with the reading of this document by Padraig Pearse. The insurgence that followed lasted 7 days and was a catalyst to the establishment of the Irish Republic and later the Irish War of Independence. 

And as such, we celebrate.
